The Problem With “Medium-Hard” Training

Mar 29
1 min read

Most athletes don’t train easy…

and they don’t train truly hard either.

They sit in the middle.

Not easy enough to recover.

Not hard enough to improve.

This is the “medium-hard trap.”

It feels productive — but over time it leads to:

❌ Constant fatigue

❌ Slower recovery between sessions

❌ Plateaued performance

❌ Inconsistent training weeks

Real progress comes from contrast:

• Easy days that are truly easy → build volume & durability

• Hard days that are purposeful → drive adaptation

When everything becomes medium-hard, both suffer.

You don’t get the benefits of recovery…

and you don’t get the benefits of intensity.

How to avoid the trap:

✅ Make your easy days feel almost too easy

✅ Commit fully to your hard sessions (with purpose)

✅ Stop chasing effort — start following structure

✅ Think in weeks, not workouts

The goal isn’t to train hard every day.

It’s to train effectively across time.

👇 Be honest — how often do your sessions drift into “medium-hard”?

Smarter training. Better decisions.
